7th Annual Nitto Tire NMCA Hot Rod Nationals Recap
Date: Sunday, September 21

It took a while but the 7th Annual Nitto Tire NMCA Hot Rod Nationals is finished. The sixth race of the Edelbrock Drag Racing Series had a slow start to eliminations Sunday but by the time the sun went down, 11-winners were crowned.
In Scorpion Performance Pro Street, Vinny Budano nabbed his third win of the season after beating Chris Rini while Spiro Pappas stayed ahead of Tony Nesbitt for the Nitto Tire Super Street 10.5W title after beating Nesbitt in the final. In ARP Nostalgia Pro Street, Kevin Parent grabbed his second win of the season after ousting Dave Beeson in the final.
The Vortech Extreme Street trophy went to Bill Trovato who beat a wheelstanding Cameron Coble for his first ever XS win. Andy Schmidt took out Mike DeMayo in an amazing final round battle in Comp Cams Pro Stock. Schmidt had a .019 reaction time to DeMayo’s .021 and both had identical 8.620-second elapsed times at the finish line, meaning Schmidt got the win by .002-seconds!
John Macaluso finally got back in the winner’s circle in Car Craft Street Race, beating Tim Hendrick’s who has won the last two final rounds over Macaluso. In Comp Cams Pro Stock, Jeff Swanson added another win to hi season with a final round win over Don Baskin. And now...Part Deux
Date: Saturday, September 20

Yup, that's John Langer again. This time he's in the other lane. The car didn't fair as well this time around and neither did Langer, who tweaked his back a bit.

At the end of the second round of qualifying, Mark Mickie leads the Scorpion Performance Pro Street pack with a 6.35. Chris Rini is second with a 6.41.

Spiro Pappas nipped Tony Nesbitt in the second round of the Nitto Tire Super Street 10.5W Shootout. Pappas will face Shawn Zubler in the final. IN the Nitto Street Race Shootout final, John Macaluso will race Tim Hendricks.

The sevens are still safe in Tremec True Street...for now. Jeff Knox had a "safe" tune in the car today and promptly ran an 8.07, 8.12 and and 8.16; lowering the fastest single pass in the class (8.07) and the quickest three-lap average. 8.122.

And this is just the first round of qualifying!
Date: Saturday, September 20

Up…up… and…Comp Cams Pro Stock racer John Langer hangs the bumper. The car appears to be fine despite it’s crash to earth.

Poof… Defending Vortech Extreme Street champion Danny Shemwell heats up the windshield.

Speaking of windshields… Jim Blair had a frightening first round run after his inner-cooler exploded near the 1,000-foor mark. The result was a blown off roof, rear window and most of the front window. Blair is fine, but acknowledges very lucky. He says don’t count them out of competition yet – they are going to try and fix it!
